I have so many things to say about this video of a man playfully wrestling with a grizzly. In part because I wouldn’t dare wrestle like this with a cat.
And because the scale of this animal is interesting. I often read about the weight of a bear, but have trouble imaging how the weight might translate to size. This is a 1,300 lb bear, huge.
But also because I’ve recently finished All The Broken Things by Kathryn Kuitenbrouwer, a stunning novel that features, among other things, bear wrestling. I hadn’t thought so much about the mechanics of being so close to a bear.
I don’t have time to dwell more today as I’m going to a fundraiser for the Toronto Public Library Foundation, the Book Lover’s Ball, but in the mean time: please imagine putting your head in a grizzly’s mouth.
I can’t. But then I’m not an animal trainer either. Risk is something to keep in proportion to knowledge.
p.s. Please note, if you are reading this on Goodreads, that you need to click through to my blog to see the video.
